Privacy

We collect as little as we can to run a local marketplace and neighborhood board, and we don't sell your data.

What we collect

  • Account: your email address (for sign-in links), the display name you choose, and that you confirmed you're 18 or older.
  • What you post: listings, photos, messages and reports.
  • Location of a listing: the spot you pin. If you choose "an approximate area" or "just the city", the exact spot is stored only so we can place the listing in the right city and keep its public circle stable. It is never shown to anyone.
  • Sign-in sessions: a cookie that keeps you signed in, plus the IP address and browser type of each session, for security.
  • Site statistics: we use Google Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they use. It sets cookies and sends Google the pages you view, your approximate location and your device type. It's used only to improve the site: Google's advertising features are turned off. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, Google Analytics is switched off for you and records nothing (your browser still downloads Google's script file with the page).

What we don't do

  • We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't run third-party advertising trackers. Google Analytics is used for site statistics only, with its advertising features turned off.
  • We remove location data (EXIF/GPS) from every photo before it's stored.
  • We don't show your email address to other people. Messages go through the site.

Services we use

  • Cloudflare hosts the site and stores photos, and its Turnstile check helps keep bots out.
  • Our database host stores account and listing data.
  • An email provider sends sign-in links.
  • Google Analytics counts visits and page views (see "Site statistics" above).
  • Automated moderation (an AI model run on Cloudflare) checks new posts and messages for prohibited content.

How long we keep things

Listings expire after 30 days unless renewed. Removed and expired listings are kept for a limited time for safety and dispute handling, then deleted; we'll publish the exact periods here. You can ask us to delete your account and its content.

Your choices and rights

You can edit your profile and remove your listings at any time. Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information. We honor Global Privacy Control signals. To make a request, email privacy@thebeatofthecity.com.

Children

The site isn't for children under 13, and the marketplace is for adults 18 and older.
